We first met and then married in Great Falls, Montana in 1986 and felt a call to serve in full time Christian missions from the start. Mark served 10 years in the Air Force and then went back to college, graduating from Northern Michigan University. We took jobs in Wisconsin and during our first year there, we heard about and committed to go to Cambodia for one year. In February, 1993 we put our house up for rent, quit our professional jobs and took our 6 month old son, Andrew to Cambodia. We spent a year teaching ESL at the medical university there. It changed our hearts and lives forever. In 1995 we became fully appointed missionaries with AGWM and also had our second son, Nik. We spent 20 years serving the people of Cambodia with AGWM. In 2014 Mark felt led to resign from his position. We served stateside for a few years in our local church and in our community, and led several groups of high school students on trips to Cambodia. In April 2018 we established a non-profit, Cambodia 316. We have long desired to build a floating school on the Tonle Sap Lake. In December 2021 we moved to Siem Reap, Cambodia. We built and moved the School of Hope to the floating village of Kbal Taol in November of 2022. The school currently has kindergarten thru grade 3. We will continue to add one grade each year through grade 6.
